How to do a long distance job search ....

Interested in a job far away? Replace Toronto with the City of your choice eg Calgary...

Some advice for you....

As a contingency recruiter, I work on jobs with 24-48 hours turnaround.
So unless you're here in Toronto, I won't be able to consider you.
You'll find that's the case with most recruiters at agencies.

So how do you network?

1) Best bet: if you don't already have a big list of recruiters to blast a resume to,
you can collect email addresses from the web or use a pay service like:
ResumeAdvance.com -- do this when you land in Toronto.
(I'll be putting a free resume email service on my website at www.officejob.ca soon)

2) Get written letters of reference you can show employers, and include them with your resume when you send it out. They will increase your "legitimacy", as most folks here won't phone Australia to do a reference check.

3) Once you're here, phone agencies and ask which recruiter specializes in Marketing roles.
(you can also gather this info from job postings on Canada's largest job board, Workopolis.com)
Email them every week to remind them of your availability. After you've done this for 3 weeks, drop by their office and ask for them by name. They should remember you, and at least shake your hand.

4) Best way to get a recruiter's attention, is to make up a question sheet that they can use as an interview template. Most recruiters don't have industry experience like you do, so you will be helping them learn how to find the best candidates!

Good Luck!!
